Rose Cut Diamonds

Lovers of vintage inspired jewelry can’t get enough of rose cut diamonds. The cut, which dates back to the 1500s, features anywhere from three to twenty-four facets. Like their name implies, rose cut diamonds resemble the unfolding petals of a rose bud.

Most popular during the Georgian and Victorian eras, rose cut diamonds lack the facets on the gem’s bottom portion that typically reflect light. Instead, they feature a flat bottom with a dome shaped crown and facets that connect at a single point at the very top.

Since their carat weight is distributed primarily on the top, rose cut diamond owners receive the benefit of a larger diamond without the added cost. When comparing rose cut diamonds to full cut diamonds, you’ll notice that even though two diamonds may have the same carat weight, the rose cut diamond will appear larger due to its greater surface area.
