What is a watch overhaul? A watch overhaul is a routine service that is done to ensure a mechanical watch is functioning properly. When a watch stops keeping time accurately, your watch likely needs a new battery or a complete overhaul. A watch overhaul includes the dismantling and cleaning of the watch’s components, replacement of worn components, lubrication of the movement components, and water test if appropriate.

How do I know if my watch needs an overhaul or if it just needs a new battery? Our watchmaker will place a new battery in the watch to determine if that was the problem. If the battery didn’t work, our watchmaker will carefully inspect the watch’s components and provide an estimate to complete an overhaul.

How much does it cost to overhaul a watch? Depending on the type of watch and the amount of labor/materials required, overhauls can cost anywhere from $75 to $1,000. On average, most overhauls fall within the $150 to $500 range. We always provide courtesy estimates for all our watch repairs, so you’ll know beforehand how much an overhaul will cost before making the decision to go ahead with the repair or not.

How often should I have my watch overhauled? We recommend having your watch serviced every 3-4 years.

How long does it take to overhaul a watch? If our watch repairman has all the necessary parts available, you can have your watch back within a week. If new parts need to be ordered, a complete overhaul can take two to three weeks.

Is there any warranty on watch overhauls? Yes, we offer a courtesy one year warranty on all watch overhaul services.
