The holidays are a time meant to be spent with family. It makes sense then that so many couples choose to get engaged during this time of the year. After all, with an engagement they’ll be creating their own family. What better way to show your gratitude to the person you love than with a Thanksgiving marriage proposal? In case you’re thinking about getting down on one knee this Thanksgiving, here are some proposal ideas:

A Thanksgiving dinner proposal: If your family is the type who goes around the table sharing what everyone is thankful for, make sure you make your speech about everything you’re thankful for about your significant other. End your speech with something like, “These are all of the reasons why I want to spend the rest of my life with you… will you marry me?”

A thankfulness letter or video: Write down everything you’re thankful for about your significant other and present the letter to him/her on Thanksgiving. If letters aren’t really your thing, you can also create a video. When the video ends/she finishes reading the letter, get down on one knee and propose.

A dessert proposal: Similar to placing an engagement ring in a glass of champagne at a restaurant, you could set the ring on top of a piece of apple or pumpkin pie.

A Thanksgiving decoration proposal: If you have pumpkins included in your Thanksgiving decorations, place the ring on the pumpkin’s stem. You could also create your own cornucopia and fill it with sentimental keepsakes from your relationship, including the engagement ring.

A wishbone proposal:  At the end of Thanksgiving Day, when you two break the wishbone, incorporate your proposal. If you end up with the larger piece, you can say something like, “There’s only one thing I wish for and that’s for you to be my wife/husband.” If your significant other ends up with the larger piece, you could say something like, “I’m not sure what you wished for, but hopefully I can make one of your wishes come true right now…” and then propose.
