Why should I have my jewelry appraised? Most insurance companies won’t insure your jewelry without a well-documented appraisal, so having your jewelry appraised is a must if you own any valuable pieces and want to get them insured. The other reason why you might need a jewelry appraisal is for estate purposes. For more information about these two types of appraisals, visit this page.

What’s all included in a jewelry appraisal? Jewelry appraisals specify all of the important details about a certain piece. This includes details about the size, quality, and quantity of the gemstone(s) as well as information about metal type and weight. All of our appraisals also include high quality pictures of the jewelry piece.

How much does an appraisal cost? If the jewelry piece was purchased at Kloiber Jewelers, we offer a courtesy appraisal at no charge. For items not purchased at Kloiber Jewelers, the charge is $75 per item.

How do I determine if my jewelry is worth insuring/getting an appraisal? If you’re unsure whether or not a certain jewelry piece has value, we’ll sort through your pieces and offer our expert opinion on whether or not you should get those pieces appraised. We do this as a courtesy and won’t charge you for this service. Generally, we recommend that you get an appraisal for any piece over $1,000.

Do I need to schedule an appointment for an appraisal? No. You’re more than welcome to schedule an appointment, but you don’t need to.

Can I wait while my jewelry is being appraised? Yes. As long as our appraiser is available, you’re more than welcome to wait while she’s looking at your piece.

How long does it take to receive my jewelry appraisal? It all depends on the complexity of the jewelry piece, how many items you need appraised, and the availability of our appraiser. Most appraisals can be completed same-day. For some appraisals, it could take up to a week for you to receive the completed appraisal.

How often should I have my appraisal updated? Insurance companies typically recommend that you have your jewelry appraisal updated every few years.
