At Kloiber Jewelers, no two engagement rings are exactly alike. Everyone wants something a little different. Some prefer platinum while others like yellow gold. Some want diamonds, others prefer colored gemstones. Some like prong set, others select bezel set. Whatever the case may be, we’ve noticed a few different trends appearing among some of our most recent engagement rings. Here they are:

  • Alternative diamond shapes are becoming increasingly popular. Round diamonds are still the most popular choice for engagement rings, but we’ve been seeing more interest in less-traditional shapes, like ovals and cushion cuts. Interestingly, princess cuts, which have been the clear #2 choice for diamond engagement rings have been declining over the years. Their sharp corners, which are prone to chipping, are leading many couples towards selecting another alternative cut for their center gemstone.
  • Thin bands are appealing for several reasons. Their delicate appearance means that more attention will be directed towards the center gemstone instead of the band. Couples can also save money when selecting thinner bands since less metal is required for these rings. The only downside to thin bands is that they are more prone to breaking. They can also cause problems when set with a larger gemstone. The ring can become too top heavy, causing your ring to occasionally turn on its own. A wider band can add more weight to the bottom portion of the ring, thus fixing this problem.
  • Solitaire rings are timeless. Engagement ring trends can change year to year, yet solitaire rings never go out of style. In the earlier part of this decade, diamond halos were the go-to choice for engagement rings, but now we’re seeing couples lean more towards the classic looking solitaire design. Diamond halos can make the center gemstone appear larger than it actually is, but they can also distract from the center gem’s overall beauty; something that solitaires definitely do not do.
  • Custom design has become the foundation for all our engagement rings. Couples today want a ring that’s different from everyone else’s. They see examples of rings they like and want to incorporate certain aspects into their one perfect engagement ring. Custom design allows them to do this and so much more, which is why almost all of the engagement rings we sell/create are custom-made.
