Today’s woman wants an engagement ring that suites her individual personality. She doesn’t want what everyone else has. She wants something unique, something gorgeous, and something truly exceptional. This is where designing a custom created engagement ring comes into play. So how exactly does one go about designing an engagement ring?

Step 1: Know what she likes. Does she like showy things? If so, you may want to consider incorporating accent diamonds in her ring. If she enjoys the more simplistic things in life, you should consider going with the more traditional solitaire design.  Whatever the case may be, it’s important to keep her likes and dislikes in mind when designing her engagement ring. If you have no idea what type of style she’ll like, consider asking her close friends and relatives for their opinions.

Step 2: Research the various styles of engagement rings. After getting a general idea of the type of ring she’ll like, it’s important to get a better sense of all the different styles already out there. Whether this means visiting local jewelry stores or searching online, you’ll most likely see yourself leaning towards certain design features. Make sure to write down everything you like about these rings, so when the time comes, you’re able to tell the engagement ring designer everything you’re looking for and he/she can incorporate all of these features into one ring.

Step 3: Set a budget. It’s important to know how much you can comfortably spend on the engagement ring so that when you meet with the designer, you can make sure the engagement ring you envision is one that will fit within your budget. If the ring will end up costing more than you anticipated, the engagement ring designer will probably suggest a more simplified and affordable version of the ring.

Step 4: Meet with a local jeweler who specializes in custom design. After asking all of the appropriate questions about the ring you envision, the designer will typically create a CAD or wax carving that will show you exactly how the ring will look even before the jeweler begins working on it. After seeing the sample, you can either suggest adjustments or give the go ahead to create the ring.

Step 5: Wait for the jeweler to finish creating the ring and then when the time comes, pick up the engagement ring and plan that perfect proposal!

Designing a custom-created engagement ring requires a lot of thought on your part, but with the right assistance, it can be a stress-free, enjoyable process. That’s why it’s so important to select a jeweler you trust, who really listens to your every word, and can offer helpful, knowledgeable advice.
